- Are weekend workshops appropriate for my skill level? If you can walk or run, you’re ready for us! We’ve had students of all ages and levels from 12 to 70’s come join us and have a blast!
Some of the students you see in our videos learned these amazing movements while training with us. This seminar is for all movement backgrounds whether you’re an elite athlete, coach, or just getting started. - Is this dangerous? We evolved to run, jump, and climb, and have natural instincts for what is safe. Any athletic activity carries some risk, but these movement practices are far less dangerous than they are usually believed to be.
Our approach focuses on helping you progressively learn your own limits. Over the history of our teaching, our injury rate is less than half that of more mainstream sports like playing soccer.
With our roughhousing we introduce elements like lifts, striking, and grappling only after teaching breakfalls and developing good partnering techniques. We start with games that have strong safety limitations before progressing as students’ competency grows.
While we ask students to gently push their personal limits, we never ask or expect students to “keep up” or perform beyond their capabilities. We want to teach you to listen to your body; this is the most powerful safety protocol. - Can my child attend? All participants must be 12 years or older. Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult.
- What all do I get with my purchase? Each ticket purchased comes with:
Expert in-person coaching: Two 8-hour training sessions covering movement, mindfulness, nature and community connection practices.
Return to Movement: Our 5-day online workshop that shares the core concepts of EMP and simple movement practices that you can incorporate into your daily routine right away.
EMP Members Area: Lifetime access to our online community where you can access our online courses and discussion forums, stay in touch with the members of your weekend workshop, and get to know other EMP members from around the world. - What will our daily schedule look like? While the specific curriculum that is covered will vary, each day’s training begins at 9am and ends at 5pm with a lunch break around noon.
Most of the day will be spent engaging in body to environment and body to body practices such as natural parkour and roughhousing, with body to object and body integrity practices being layered in as needed.
Between physical practices, there will be plenty of time set aside for brief lectures, dialogues and group discussions to help process insights gained through training. - What should I bring with me?Everyone’s needs differ, so our general policy is that each person brings what they need to be comfortable.
You’ll most likely want to have a backpack, plenty of water, a lunch, and any snacks that you’ll want to have with you throughout the day.
We will be moving in nature, with other people, for close to 8 hours each day, so consider wearing clothing that is breathable and non restrictive, that you don’t mind getting dirty. You may also consider bringing a towel and a change of clothes.
While we encourage moving barefoot as much as possible, we will be training in a public space, so it’s great to have some athletic or minimalist shoes handy just in case.
We will likely spend a decent portion of each day in direct sunlight, so bring any UV protection that you might deem necessary.
You may also like to have a pen and paper to take notes with. - Can I use/share what I learn at the workshop?Of course! We encourage you to implement the skills you learn at our events into your own routine. If you need help in continuing that process, drop us a line in the EMP Members Area, or consider purchasing one of our online courses.
If you are a coach yourself, we are happy to have you use the material you learn in your own classes, so long as you cite our work and do not try to promote yourself using our name without an EMP certification. - What's the Cancelation Policy?Full refunds are available up until 30 days before the event.
Less than 30 days before the event, tickets are transferable if non-attendance is due to injury, illness, or family emergency.

I've done two workshops with EMP and loved them both. The coaches, are all incredible human beings, as well as skilled facilitators. They not only bring play, fun, & functionality to movement, but they also incorporate elements of psychology, human connection, and inspiration. The workshops are about connecting with self, others, and nature, reconnecting to play, and challenging your mind and body to step out of its comfort zone and explore one's full potential. I'm grateful that something like EMP exists and think more people should know about it!
I work an office job at UW that has been pretty stressful lately - The workshop was a true breath of fresh air in many ways!
This has done a lot to help keep me sane in this rough time, and I feel that I am healthier, happier, and more productive overall. So thank you for sharing your wisdom with all of us at the retreat!
I feel closer to my soul and I'm very grateful for your facilitation. It was a dream experience with a bunch of my favorite people.
